US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is also expected to join the talks, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal and a US official briefed on the plans.

Witkoff, who has been leading negotiations with both Kyiv and Moscow over a proposed US peace framework, will hold further meetings on Sunday and Monday with representatives from France, the UK and Germany.

French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are among the leaders expected to attend.

The discussions are expected to focus on narrowing the remaining gaps between Washington and Kyiv over the terms of a plan aimed at ending Russia's war in Ukraine.

On Thursday, the White House said President Trump would send an envoy to the Berlin meeting only if he believed there was sufficient prospect of progress.
