"A good meeting with the US president—productive and substantive," Zelensky wrote on Twitter, adding that he and Trump discussed ongoing peace negotiations and "air defence for Ukraine" to help strengthen protection of its skies.
Zelensky told reporters that security guarantees for Ukraine had been finalised and that negotiators from Ukraine, the United States and Russia were set to hold trilateral talks for the first time in Abu Dhabi on Friday and Saturday.
He also said an agreement on Ukraine’s postwar economic recovery was close to completion as part of efforts to end Russia's nearly four-year war against Ukraine.
The plan is a central element of Kyiv’s pushback against an earlier US peace proposal that Ukrainian officials have said favoured Moscow, the Reuters news agency reported.
Trump told reporters his meeting with Zelensky was "good."
"It’s an ongoing process,” he said, adding that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were heading to Moscow for further discussions.
