According to Ukraine’s National Police, a drone struck near a marketplace and residential buildings, killing an 18-year-old man and a young woman, and injuring at least seven others, including two children.

Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, confirmed on social media that Russian forces shelled the city on Tuesday evening.

Three people were taken to hospital, including a 15-year-old girl in critical condition. Ukraine’s emergency services said four civilian cars caught fire as a result of the shelling.

The strike was part of a broader wave of Russian attacks involving missiles launched by strategic aircraft and drones, with explosions reported in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, according to local authorities.

In Kyiv, air raid alerts lasted more than seven hours, leaving three people injured and causing fires and damage to residential buildings, including a petrol station. Officials also warned of possible ballistic missile strikes overnight.

In Kharkiv, intense shelling continued for more than three hours, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said, forcing authorities to drain water from the heating systems of 820 buildings to prevent freezing amid severe winter conditions.

Dnipro was also hit, with fires, infrastructure damage, and destruction of residential buildings reported by regional military officials.

The attacks came despite comments by US President Donald Trump on 29 January that Russian President Vladimir Putin had given assurances that Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities would not be targeted - a pledge the Kremlin later said applied only until 1 February.
