Ukraine is seeking strong security guarantees, including the presence of Western troops along the Dnieper and assurances of a Western response in the event of further Russian aggression. For Moscow, the priority remains the full control of the Donbas region.
According to Ukrainian officials, the talks are structured in two parts.
Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s chief negotiator and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, said the first involves bilateral meetings with U.S. representatives, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to discuss security guarantees, an economic support package for Ukraine, and other bilateral matters.
The second part consists of trilateral sessions with the Russian delegation.
