The negotiations, which began on Wednesday, are scheduled to continue on Thursday, 5 February 2026.
After consulting with Ukrainian participants in the discussions, Zelensky described the day’s talks as producing preliminary results. He stressed the importance of bringing prisoners home and signalled that a concrete exchange would take place in the near future.
Key Ukrainian figures involved in the negotiations included Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation, Kyrylo Budanov, chief of the Presidential Office, and Davyd Arakhamia, parliamentary leader of the ruling Servant of the People party.
Zelensky also reaffirmed Ukraine’s stance on a potential peace agreement, insisting that any resolution must realistically end the war and that Russia must be prepared for such a settlement.
The politician emphasised the need for Kyiv’s international partners to provide tangible security guarantees and to maintain pressure on Moscow to ensure progress toward a genuine peace.
The president warned against offering concessions that could be perceived as rewarding Russia, arguing that any such gestures would undermine the credibility of an agreement and risk it being broken in the future.
Earlier on Wednesday, Umerov described the tripartite meeting as substantive and productive, focused on practical steps and solutions, with smaller working groups continuing discussions after the main talks.
On Thursday, Umerov confirmed that the second day of negotiations in Abu Dhabi had begun.
In a morning post on X, he assured that work would continue in the same formats as the previous day, including trilatera consultations, working groups, and further coordination of positions.
The results, he added, would be shared later.
