"The front line is holding... The situation is complex, but the best it has been in the last 10 months," Zelensky said.
He added that Ukraine's armed forces had foiled a Russian offensive planned for March, but warned that Moscow was now massing troops near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region and near Hulaipole in Zaporizhzhia.
"At this point, we do not see a large-scale threat."
According to the president, Ukraine was "slightly in the positive", having liberated around 20 sq km of territory.
Zelensky also said he had invited US negotiators to visit Kyiv as an alternative to trilateral Ukraine-US-Russia talks, which have stalled.
"The delegation will do everything possible, under the current circumstances – during the war with Iran – to come to Kyiv," he noted, suggesting the US team could then travel on to Moscow.
Zelensky said Ukraine's Easter ceasefire proposal remained on the table, and hoped Washington would pass it on to Moscow.
According to the DeepState open-source intelligence map, Russian forces have advanced by around 500 sq km since the start of January – a slower pace than last year.
Moscow controls just under 20 percent of Ukrainian territory.
