Ukraine's ambassador to Poland set to leave post

Ukraine's ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, is set to return to Kyiv and take up a senior role at the foreign ministry, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

Zelensky made the announcement during a meeting with heads of Ukrainian diplomatic missions in Kyiv, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

He said Bodnar and Ukraine's ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, could both be appointed deputy foreign ministers.

Bodnar has held the Warsaw post since 2024.

He previously served as Ukraine's ambassador to Turkey from 2021 to 2024, and as deputy foreign minister between 2017 and 2021.

Zvarych led Ukraine's embassy in Poland before Bodnar, from June 2022 to July 2024, before moving to the Czech posting.

According to PAP (Polish Press Agency) sources, potential candidates to succeed Bodnar in Warsaw include Iryna Vereshchuk, deputy head of the presidential office, and Oleksandr Mishchenko, currently a deputy foreign minister.
