The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said it had deployed "all necessary forces and resources at its disposal" as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of Polish airspace amid ‌Russian attacks on ‌Ukraine.

It added that it was "monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis."

Military aircraft were activated, the Operational Command said in a statement, adding that measures were taken to ensure security in areas near the Ukrainian border.

"Ground-based air defence systems and radar reconnaissance have been placed on alert," the army said on its social media channels.

At around 6:30 a.m., the Operational Command said the threat of Russian strikes on regions bordering Poland had decreased and that military aircraft were returning to base.

"Activated ground-based air defence ‌and ‌radar reconnaissance systems have returned to standard operational activities," it said.

It reported no violations of Polish airspace during the attacks.

"We thank the Swedish Air Force Flygvapnet, whose fighter jets helped ensure the security of Polish airspace," the Operational Command said.

Russia launched a barrage of drones ‌and missiles at Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least 11 people and ‌damaging residential buildings, industrial facilities and infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said.

Two people were killed in the capital Kyiv, four in the northern city of Pryluki and two in the central Poltava region, the Reuters news agency reported.

"Ukraine has once again been hit by Russian missiles throughout the night," Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's parliamentary commissioner for human rights, was quoted as saying on the Telegram app.

"Another sleepless night, another act of terror, after which people still have to plan their working day despite everything," he added.

Russia launched 130 drones, 48 cruise missiles and also ballistic missiles to attack Ukraine, the Ukrainian air force said, Reuters reported.
