The meeting comes after Grandi a day earlier expressed his gratitude to Poland for its efforts in supporting Ukrainian refugees during a meeting with Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński, officials told reporters.

"The meeting discussed detailed steps in efforts to aid refugees," the Polish interior ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

Earlier this week, Grandi pledged international support for Poland’s southern city of Kraków as it welcomes a wave of refugees from Ukraine.

He said at the time that Kraków had received around 150,000 people displaced by the war in Ukraine.

Poland on Friday reported it had welcomed more than 2.4 million refugees fleeing Russia's war on Ukraine.

Polish President Andrzej Duda last month signed into law a measure to offer wide-ranging support to Ukrainians escaping the Russian invasion of their country, which began on February 24.

The measure grants them legal residence in Poland and ensures access to education, healthcare and social benefits.
