Russian military death toll in Ukraine rises to 59,080: report

Around 59,080 Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Vladimir Putin invaded the country in late February, according to Ukrainian military authorities.

The Russians have also lost 2,338 tanks, 4,932 armored fighting vehicles, and 1,391 artillery systems, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Friday, as cited by the ukrinform.net website.

Other Russian losses in Ukraine include 333 multiple launch rocket systems, 176 anti-aircraft warfare systems, 264 warplanes225 helicopters, 15 warships, and 1,003 unmanned aerial vehicles, ukrinform.net reported.

A top Kyiv official was quoted as saying on Thursday that dozens of Russia’s newly drafted troops have already been killed on the battlefields of Ukraine.

A US Pentagon official said last month that Russia had suffered between 70,000 and 80,000 casualties, either killed or wounded, during its invasion of Ukraine.

Friday is day 219 of Russia's war on Ukraine.
