The meeting, scheduled for Friday at the US air base in Ramstein, Germany, will bring together defense ministers from countries supporting Ukraine.
Zelensky’s participation is seen as an effort to underscore the gravity of the situation on the battlefield, German daily Der Spiegel has reported.
The Ukrainian president is expected to appeal for additional military aid, particularly long-range missiles and air defense systems for Ukraine’s army.
The Ramstein meeting comes just a week after one of the largest waves of Russian air attacks on Ukraine, raising concerns that Western military aid could slow down more than two and a half years into the war.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has recently visited key allies, holding talks with his counterparts in Washington, Berlin and other capitals.
Since the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Western defense ministers have regularly convened in the Ramstein format to coordinate efforts aimed at providing Ukraine with military equipment.
The last meeting of the group, on June 13, focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
