Zelensky expressed gratitude to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the entire EU for the new measures, which target, among other things, Russia’s shadow oil shipping network.

In a message shared on the X social media platform, Zelensky stressed the importance of curbing the Russian tanker fleet, which he said "finances killings" and supports the Kremlin’s weapons production.

"The more pressure on Russia, the more motivation it will have to seek genuine peace," he wrote.

Zelensky also revealed he had spoken with von der Leyen about preparing an 18th sanctions package.

He said that the most impactful sanctions are those targeting Russian oil, energy infrastructure and the banking sector.

The Ukrainian leader added that they discussed his recent conversation with US President Donald Trump and ongoing diplomatic coordination with international partners.

"Europe must be on board, and we are coordinating every step as closely as possible," Zelensky said.
