“Putin is needlessly killing a lot of people,” Trump wrote on social media. “Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever … If he wants to conquer all of Ukraine, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!”
Ukrainian authorities said at least 12 people were killed and dozens wounded in the latest barrage.
Trump also vented at Volodymyr Zelensky, saying the Ukrainian leader is “doing his country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
Earlier, speaking to reporters, Trump said he had “always gotten along” with Putin but now “I don’t know what the hell happened to him … he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people and I don’t like it at all.”
Despite a phone call last week in which Trump said Russia and Ukraine would “immediately” begin ceasefire talks, the Kremlin has signaled no direct negotiations are scheduled.
Poland scrambled aircraft and put its air defence systems on alert in the early hours of Monday morning as Russia launched a fresh air attack on Ukraine, military officials said.
