The Ukrainian Air Force press service head, Colonel Yuri Ihnat, told the Associated Press agency that the nighttime attack was the “most massive airstrike” on his country. It mostly targeted civilian infrastructure in numerous regions across Ukraine - including its western part, far from the frontline.
"Moscow will not stop as long as it can carry out such massive attacks. This week alone, more than 114 missiles, more than 1,270 drones and almost 1,100 KAB-500 aircraft bombs have been launched on Ukraine. Putin has long decided to continue the fight despite the world's appeals for peace"
- President Zelenskyy wrote on social media. The Ukrainian leader also called on his country's international partners to increase assistance, primarily in the field of air defense:
"We need to end the war, we need to put pressure on the aggressor, we need protection - from ballistic and regular missiles, from drones, from all this terror. Boosting air defense is the best way to protect lives. These are American systems - and we are ready to buy them"
- Zelenskyy emphasized.
The head of the Kherson regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, said that one person was killed in a drone strike in this southern region. In central Ukraine's Cherkasy region six people, including a child, were injured - reported Ihor Taburets, the local military authorities head.
In the western region of Lviv, a large fire broke out at an industrial plant in Drohobych after a drone attack. The airstrike also caused a loss of power in part of the city.
Russian troops attacked Ukraine on Saturday night with 477 drones and 60 missiles, the Ukrainian Air Force reported. During the repulsion of Moscow's night attack, Ukraine also lost an F-16 fighter jet and its pilot.
