Speaking to reporters in Kyiv, Svyrydenko said the deal would also involve the United States purchasing drones, Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform reported.

"We plan to sign a drone deal with the United States," Svyrydenko said, as cited by Ukrinform. "We are discussing investments in the expansion of production of Ukrainian drones by the US."

She clarified that the agreement involves the procurement of a large batch of Ukrainian-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Ukrinform said.

The announcement came a day after President Volodymyr Zelensky tasked a reshuffled new government led by Svyrydenko with scaling up Ukraine's arms industry and strengthening ties with its strategic partners, the Reuters news agency reported.

Svyrydenko added that a political decision on the deal had been made by Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, and that officials were already hashing out the details, according to Reuters.

Zelensky recently said he and Trump were considering a "mega-deal" under which the United States would purchase battle-tested Ukrainian drones in exchange for Ukraine agreeing to buy American-made weapons, according to Ukrinform.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 1,241 of the war.
