"Today, we had a good first conversation with the President-elect of Poland, Karol Nawrocki. I congratulated him on his election victory on June 1 and wished him success,” Zelensky shared via social media.

On Thursday, a phone conversation took place between Poland’s president-elect - who is set to be sworn in on August 6 - and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The call was made at the request of the Ukrainian leader, according to Rafał Leśkiewicz, spokesperson for the Polish president-elect.

“We count on Poland to remain our reliable partner and ally. We value all the support Poland has provided since the very beginning of the full-scale war - military, political, and humanitarian,” said Zelensky, adding: “Last night, Russia launched yet another massive attack on Ukraine. I informed [him] about the consequences of this strike and the situation on the front line.”

“It is crucial for us that Poland continues to support Ukraine, because we are defending not only ourselves, but all of Europe, including Poland. We discussed key events that will take place in the coming months. We agreed to exchange visits during which we will discuss all current issues of bilateral cooperation. We will definitely define formats of engagement that will bring real results for both our countries and our people,” he added, expressing his gratitude “for the readiness to work together and for the assurance of continued support for Ukraine.”

Ukraine, fighting Kremlin regime, can rely on Poland’s support, says Nawrocki

The spokesperson for Karol Nawrocki confirmed that during the call with Zelensky, Poland’s president-elect emphasised that cooperation between the two countries “must be based on mutual respect and genuine partnership,” and assured the Ukrainian leader that “Ukraine, which is fighting against the Kremlin regime, can count on Poland’s support.”

Nawrocki also stated that “historical issues will be the subject of further discussions with the President of Ukraine.”
