Russian drones flying into Poland during Moscow’s overnight assault on Ukraine show that President Vladimir Putin’s sense of impunity is growing because he has not been properly punished for past crimes, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Wednesday.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Poland’s military shot down drones that repeatedly violated its airspace.

"Putin just keeps escalating, expanding his war and testing the West,” Sybiha wrote on X. “The longer he faces no strength in response, the more aggressive he gets. A weak response now will provoke Russia even more — and then Russian missiles and drones will fly even further into Europe.”

Sybiha urged allies to allow partner air defense systems in neighboring countries to intercept Russian drones and missiles in Ukrainian airspace, especially near NATO borders.

He also called for more support to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses and for tougher sanctions on Moscow.

“Putin will only get serious about peace negotiations when he faces serious transatlantic pressure,” Sybiha said. “The Russian war machine must be stopped — and it can only be stopped by strength, not weakness.”
