“Poland can’t save people if something massive happens,” Zelensky said in an interview at the Presidential Palace in Kyiv, referring to last week’s incident when Warsaw intercepted only four of 19 drones that breached its airspace.

“This is not a message to our Polish friends – they are not in the war, so it’s understandable that they are not ready for such things,” he told Sky News international correspondent Yalda Hakim, contrasting the situation with Ukraine, where air defenses destroyed between 700 and 810 aerial threats over the same period thanks to a coordinated multi-system approach involving jets and drone interceptors.

President Zelensky also suggested that Russia’s recent actions may have been intended as a warning to Western nations.

“In my opinion, they gave a signal… don’t even think about providing Ukraine with additional air defenses. You may need to find a way to get it yourself,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader added that Kyiv is ready to help Poland strengthen its defenses by offering training in counter-drone tactics.

Zelensky has repeatedly urged Western allies to expand “multi-system” air defense support, including additional Patriot missile systems.

“I think they did this, and I am not yet ready to say that the plan worked. I will be able to say so in October,” he added, noting that developments in air defense deliveries over the next month will determine whether Russian President Vladimir Putin’s strategy has succeeded.
