"You have to know that we're going to make a dealI'm not going to be wasting my time," Trump told reporters on Saturday.

In a separate statement, Trump said he wanted China to help secure peace in Russia's war against Ukraine, media outlets reported.

"I'd like China to help us out with Russia," he told reporters aboard Air Force One. "I'd like to see China help us out."

The comments came as part of Trump’s trip to Asia, during which he is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to reports.

Washington on Wednesday announced sanctions targeting Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil in an effort to pressure Moscow to end its invasion of Ukraine.

Trump had earlier encouraged Putin to pursue dialogue to halt the war, and the two leaders had been scheduled to meet in Budapest.

"We canceled the meeting with President Putin—it just didn’t feel right to me,” Trump said on Wednesday.

“It didn’t feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get. So I canceled it, but we’ll do it in the future," he added.
