Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday his country is ready for an “energy truce” with Russia—provided Moscow agrees—despite ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power infrastructure.
Zelensky is currently on a European tour to discuss the U.S. peace plan. On Tuesday, he met with Pope Leo XIV in Castel Gandolfo and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome, following earlier talks in London and Brussels.

Zelensky said the attacks show Russia’s lack of interest in peace talks, but he reiterated Ukraine’s willingness to engage if conditions are met.

Speaking to reporters via WhatsApp, Zelensky also declared readiness to hold national elections within 60 to 90 days, pending security guarantees from U.S. and European partners. He plans to ask Ukraine’s parliament to establish a legal framework for voting during wartime.

The U.S., Zelensky said, has signaled its peace plan includes “realistic” security assurances for Ukraine, though Washington has not threatened to halt arms deliveries.

He added that Kyiv is pushing for a high-level meeting with American officials within two weeks and intends to include Ukraine’s reconstruction in the peace agreement backed by the U.S.
