President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on January 24th that senior representatives of the Ukrainian armed forces and military intelligence will join the ongoing round of peace talks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Details of the Friday-started talks were not disclosed after their first day.

Russia likely wants all of Donbas, including the part it has failed to capture despite four years of war. Unofficially, the United States, acting as an intermediary in the talks, is pressuring Kyiv to make concessions.

Russia launched further attacks on Ukraine overnight using drones and ballistic missiles. Civilian targets were targeted, primarily energy infrastructure. A series of explosions were heard in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other Ukrainian cities.
