Zelensky said he had met with Ukraine’s negotiating team, which presented him with a report on discussions held so far.

The meetings in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, have been scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

"Ukraine is ready for a substantive discussion, and we are interested in ensuring that the outcome brings us closer to a real and dignified end to the war," Zelensky said in a statement.

His office confirmed that the dates were agreed during a telephone call with American officials.

It said no further details would be provided in order to protect the integrity of the negotiating process.

The talks involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia in the Emirates were originally due to begin on Sunday, but Zelensky said on Saturday they would likely be postponed.

Ukrainian officials have indicated that the sticking point in the talks is a Russian ultimatum demanding that Ukraine withdraw from the entire Donbas region in the east of the country.
