The Kremlin said Trump called Putin and that the two leaders discussed Russian proposals for a speedy end to the conflict in Iran, the military situation in Ukraine and the impact of events in Venezuela on the global oil market.

"I had a very good call with President Putin," Trump told a news conference at his golf club in Florida, according to the Reuters news agency.

He added that Putin offered to be helpful on Iran.

"I said, 'You could be more helpful by getting the Ukraine-Russia war over with. That will be more helpful,'" Trump said, according to Reuters.

Putin has previously said the US-Israeli war against Iran has triggered a global energy crisis, Reuters reported.

It said the Trump administration was considering easing oil sanctions on Russia to increase global supplies following disruptions to shipments from the Middle East.
