Russia fires 44 missiles, 659 drones at Ukraine overnight, death toll rises to 13

Russia launched 44 missiles and 659 drones in an overnight attack on Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Thursday, with local authorities reporting 13 people killed and at least 99 injured in strikes on Kyiv, Odesa and Dnipro.

The military said Russia fired 19 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, 20 Kh-101 cruise missiles, five Iskander-K cruise missiles and 659 Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas and other drones overnight.

According to preliminary data, air defenses shot down 19 Kh-101 missiles, eight Iskander-M/S-400 missiles, four Iskander-K missiles and 636 drones, the Ukrainian Air Force said.

A total of 12 missiles and 20 drones hit targets in 26 locations, while downed objects fell in 25 locations.

The death toll from the attacks rose to 13.

A 12-year-old child was killed in the shelling of Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said overnight.

Local authorities said at least 10 people were injured in the capital, where the attack caused multiple fires and damage to buildings.

Later, the local prosecutor’s office said four people were killed and at least 54 wounded in the combined attack on Kyiv, including three police officers, four medical workers and two foreigners.

In Dnipro, local authorities said at least five people were initially reported injured.

Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration chief Oleksandr Hanzha said Russia had attacked two districts with drones, artillery and missiles, killing three people and injuring 34.

In Odesa, six people were killed and 11 injured in overnight missile and drone strikes, according to the head of the city’s military administration.

On Wednesday, Russian forces attacked central and southern regions of Ukraine with 21 cruise missiles and 362 drones, the air force said, adding that air defenses shot down almost all of them.

Poland on Wednesday scrambled fighter jets and put its air defense systems on alert as Russia rained missiles and drones on Ukraine.
