The attack, which ran from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning, targeted Kyiv with over 670 strike drones and 56 missiles on the final night alone. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had used more than 1,560 drones in total since Wednesday.
In the Darnytsia district of Kyiv, a stairwell in an eight-story residential building collapsed after a drone strike, trapping people beneath the rubble. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said rescue workers had recovered three bodies from the wreckage, with more than ten people still unaccounted for. Kyiv police later confirmed a fourth fatality.
"Unfortunately, we know of three people killed whose bodies rescuers have pulled from the rubble. There are reports of more than ten missing; we are looking for them", Klymenko said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the first wounded were being brought to hospitals, warning that the casualty toll could rise as additional waves of Russian drones were still heading toward the capital.
Ukrainian authorities said the primary targets of the assault were railway and energy infrastructure. Air raid sirens sounded throughout the night across multiple regions. Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine was also struck Thursday morning, with city authorities reporting 28 casualties, including three children. The western oblasts of Volyn, Lviv and Zakarpattia — which border Poland — were also attacked.
