More than 600 emergency workers and police were deployed across the city to clear debris and search for survivors, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service.

Among the hardest-hit sites was a business center in the Holosiivskyi district, where falling wreckage from a downed drone triggered a fire that killed one person and wounded two others.

Rescuers were still combing through the building hours later, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

"Rescuers are continuing search operations in the building," Klitschko wrote on Telegram, describing the scene.

The overnight drone and missile barrage triggered four separate air raid alerts in Kyiv during the day, as officials warned of continued threats from jet-powered drones.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia fired 168 drones and missiles of various types at Ukraine overnight into Thursday, calling ballistic missiles the most dangerous element of the assault.
