The country’s governing conservatives want to bring back public transport routes that were scrapped when they proved not to be cost effective.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Thursday: "This is a great opportunity for another wave of entrepreneurship, for stimulating another great wave of Polish capitalism.”

He added that businesses were reluctant to invest in areas suffering from a lack of public transport and where employees would have trouble getting to work.

Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk said between 10 and 14 million Poles lived in areas that were "transportationally excluded.”

"Some Poles are doomed to a worse standard of living" at the moment, he added.

Adamczyk said the government aimed to have new bus connections up and running by the start of the school year in September.
