The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued storm alerts for much of central, eastern and southern Poland, with wind gusts of up to 85 km/h forecast and hail possible in some areas.

The most severe weather is expected in parts of the Podkarpackie region, where gusts could reach 90 km/h and rainfall totals may hit 40 mm.

The alerts will take effect before noon on Saturday and remain in force until the evening.

Residents have been urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid dangerous areas during storms and prepare for temporary electricity disruptions.

The warnings follow a storm-related evacuation in western Poland, where 121 people were moved from a scout camp as severe weather approached in the latest in a series of weather-related incidents affecting youth camps this summer.

Firefighters handled more than 120 emergency calls across the region, including reports of fallen trees, blocked roads and damaged roofs.

The incident comes shortly after more than 1,000 scouts and supervisors were evacuated from camps in northern Poland after violent storms damaged tents and knocked down trees.
