Officers said they stopped 1,245 drunk drivers during their annual Operation Torch road safety campaign, which this year lasted from October 31 to November 3.

During a similar period last year, 48 people died and 462 were injured in 367 accidents on Polish roads, Radosław Kobryś from the country’s General Police Headquarters told state news agency PAP.

All Saints' Day on November 1 and All Souls' Day on November 2 are when millions of Poles visit the graves of their loved ones, often travelling hundreds of kilometres to their home towns.
