Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Michał Dworczyk, the head of the prime minister’s chancellery who also acts a coordinator of a national vaccination programme, said that the ministry has received 8,319 applications from medical teams across the country.

Over 70 percent of the teams that applied represent primary care facilities, the ministry said.

According to initial estimates, based on the data provided by the applicants, Poles can expect that about 3.4 million people could be vaccinated each month, Dworczyk said.

"We are now analysing all applications, we are checking if the sites are evenly distributed, on December 16 or 17 we will unveil a map of future vaccination sites," the official told the press conference.

During the Saturday press conference, health minister Adam Niedzielski once again encouraged Poles to take the opportunity to get vaccinated against the new coronavirus.

The official stressed that people who were previously infected with COVID-19 can be safely and effectively vaccinated.

Under the so-called National Vaccination Strategy, which is likely to be adopted by the government on Tuesday, all adult Polish citizens and children aged 12 and over would be able to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for free.
