Poland reports 218 new coronavirus cases, 46 more deaths

Poland on Thursday reported 218 new coronavirus infections and 46 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,878,276 and fatalities to 74,734.

Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, 30 were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which contains the national capital Warsaw.

Meanwhile, 24 new infections were reported each in the southwestern province of Dolnośląskie, home to the major city of Wrocław, and the southern coal mining region of Silesia.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 33 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 13 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Wednesday, Poland confirmed 62 deaths and 241 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 52 deaths and 215 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,671 in hospitals, 61,041 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Thursday morning that 1,671 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 253 of them on ventilators, with a further 61,041 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,649,535 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
