Poland confirms 96 new coronavirus cases, 21 more deaths

Poland on Friday reported 96 new coronavirus infections and 21 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,880,107 and fatalities to 75,065.

Of the new cases confirmed on Friday, the most—18—were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 13 people with pre-existing medical conditions and eight who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Thursday, Poland confirmed 23 deaths and 98 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 16 deaths and 104 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

690 in hospitals, 84,100 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Friday morning that 690 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 103 of them on ventilators, with a further 84,100 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,652,004 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
