Poland confirms 882 new coronavirus cases, 20 more deaths

Poland on Wednesday reported 882 new coronavirus infections and 20 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,899,888 and fatalities to 75,523.

Of the new cases confirmed on Wednesdaythe most—152—were in the eastern province of Lubelskie, which is home to the major city of Lublin.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 14 people with pre-existing medical conditions and six others who died directly because of COVID-19, the health ministry said.

On Tuesday, Poland confirmed 15 deaths and 711 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with no fatalities and 363 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,179 in hospitals, 85,170 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Wednesday morning that 1,179 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 124 of them on ventilators, with a further 85,170 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,659,840 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the weeks ahead as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.

Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said earlier this month that the daily number of new coronavirus infections in the country could reach 1,000 by the end of September and then rise to 5,000 by late October.
