Poland reports 813 new coronavirus cases, 14 more deaths

Poland on Friday reported 813 new coronavirus infections and 14 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,901,674 and fatalities to 75,551.

Of the new cases confirmed on Fridaythe most—132—were in the eastern province of Lubelskie, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 12 people with pre-existing medical conditions and two others who who died directly because of COVID-19, the health ministry said.

On ThursdayPoland confirmed 14 deaths and 974 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 20 deaths and 882 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,258 in hospitals, 87,576 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Friday morning that 1,258 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 138 of them on ventilators, with a further 87,576 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,660,438 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the weeks ahead as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.

Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said earlier this month that the daily number of new coronavirus infections in the country could reach 1,000 by the end of September and then rise to 5,000 by late October.
