Refugees have been crossing into Poland ever since Russia launched its assault on Ukraine on February 24.

On Wednesday, the number of arrivals from Poland’s war-torn eastern neighbour totalled 117,600, the Border Guard tweeted.

A further 22,000 fled to Poland by 7am on Thursday morning, the agency added.

Poland’s Sejm (lower house) on Wednesday approved a plan of assistance to Ukrainians who escape the Russian invasion of their country.
