Some 50,000 scouts are expected to descend on the Polish port city for the event, state news agency PAP has reported.

On Thursday, the central government’s representative in the northern Pomorskie region signed an agreement with the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP) to co-organise the 2027 World Scout Jamboree, officials said.

Martyna Kowacka, who heads the ZHP, told reporters: “It’s a cyclical event. It’s held every four years in various parts of the world.”

She noted that next year the World Scout Jamboree will take place in South Korea, before coming to Poland in 2027.

Kowacka added: “The Jamboree is for kids and youth aged 14 to 17. It’s a magical event that can only be attended once in a lifetime.”

The international gathering of scouts features diverse events and activities that make it a special adventure for participants, officials said.

The World Scout Jamboree brings together members of national scouting organisations that belong to the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM).

The 2027 World Scout Jamboree will be held at Gdańsk’s Sobieszewska Island, reporters were told.

In 2018, the island hosted a gathering of ZHP scouts to mark 100 years of the organisation and the centenary of Polish independence, the PAP news agency reported.

That event attracted around 15,000 participants, according to officials.

“Gdańsk has everything we need,” the ZHP’s Kowacka told reporters on Thursday.
