In a joint statement to the media, Poland's President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said they opposed any plans by the European Union for "mandatory relocation of migrants" across the bloc.
"Our position on the issue of mandatory relocation of migrants is uniform and unchanging," Duda said.
Morawiecki, meanwhile, restated his plan to "veto" the EU’s proposed new migration package at an informal meeting of the bloc’s leaders in the Spanish city of Granada.
He told reporters he would "say a firm no to proposals for the admission of illegal migrants" at the gathering in Spain on Thursday and Friday.
Morawiecki was expected to fly to Granada later in the day.
Duda, meanwhile, was set to travel to Portugal for a summit of the so-called Arraiolos Group of countries, with plans to discuss migration, security and Russia's war in Ukraine with heads of state from various EU member countries, according to his office.
On Wednesday, EU ambassadors meeting in Brussels reached an agreement on the final component of a common EU migration and asylum policy despite opposition from Poland and Hungary, according to media reports.
Poland and Hungary voted against the measure, while Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria abstained, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Wednesday’s deal paves the way for establishing common rules to manage an unexpected mass arrival of asylum seekers, a crucial element of the EU’s migration reform, the Euronews website reported.
Also on Wednesday, the European Parliament held a debate on “the need for a speedy adoption of the asylum and migration package,” according to a report by the PAP news agency.
