Pollster IBRiS said trust in Tusk increased by 5.8 percentage points compared with a similar survey a month earlier.

At the same time, 49 percent of respondents said they did not trust Tusk, a decrease of 2.4 percentage points from last month, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

President Andrzej Duda was named the second-most trusted politician in the country, with 44.5 percent of those surveyed expressing confidence in him, the IBRiS poll found.

Lower-house Speaker Szymon Hołownia came in third, with 44.4 percent, ahead of Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski in fourth place, with 43.4 percent.

Meanwhile, former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro is the most distrusted politician in the country, according to the survey, which was carried out on April 22 and 23.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents said they distrusted Ziobro, while 54.6 percent expressed distrust in conservative leader Jarosław Kaczyński, IBRiS reported.

Tusk, who is undergoing treatment for pneumonia, wrote on his Facebook page: "Getting a little sick did the trick ... But seriously, I am very pleased that after so many years of state-sponsored hate at the hands of the PiS party, I've managed to regain your trust. This is very motivating and even more of an obligation. Thank you!"
