Krzysztof Gawkowski while participating in Sunday’s press conference with candidates running in the European Parliament elections from the Kuyavian-Pomeranian constituency, northern Poland, highlighted that the range of activities of foreign services, especially those related to the Russian Federation, is growing.
"Poland is facing a cyber cold war in which quick countermeasures and prevention are crucial. (...) Russia wants to destabilize the situation in cyber fields before the European Parliament elections. It does it with full awareness. It wants to influence the public by disinforming them and introducing panic. Within the next two weeks, cyberattacks will occur and incidents will double," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Gawkowski added that the state should strongly counteract cyberattacks and prevent citizens from being at risk.
Poland is experiencing an increasing number of cyberattacks, according to Poland's Deputy Prime Minister. As he pointed out, in 2022, there were 40,000 of them, in 2023 - 80,000, and everything indicates that at the end of the second quarter of 2024, there will be 100 percent more such attacks than in the same period last year, according to Gawkowski.
He also appealed to all citizens to remain vigilant and maintain digital hygiene.
