Szymon Hołownia, Speaker of the Sejm (Poland's lower house of parliament) has demanded an explanation from right-wing opposition party leader Mariusz Błaszczak after a late-night fight allegedly broke out involving PiS MP Dariusz Matecki and actor Jacek Kopczyński.

According to a preliminary report from parliamentary security, the confrontation involved only Law and Justice (PiS) MPs and their guests. Hołownia described the behaviour as “completely unacceptable.”

Conflicting accounts

Police said Kopczyński, who admitted consuming alcohol, was charged with assaulting two lawmakers before being released.

Matecki claims the actor approached him without provocation and struck him and another MP. Kopczyński denies any assault, describing the event as a verbal dispute that escalated into a group scuffle.

The actor, who recently underwent heart surgery, was later taken to hospital. His lawyer maintains his innocence and says evidence will clear his name. Hołownia has pledged to review CCTV footage and consult security officials.

Matecki has accused the Speaker of “lying” and says he will file a complaint with the ethics committee.
