Foreign Ministry spokesperson Paweł Wroński said on Friday at a press conference that the move by Russian authorities, while anticipated, was not justified. He stressed that Poland would react proportionally to the decision, which Moscow described as a mirror response to the earlier closure of its consulate in Kraków.

“I would like to appeal to tourists not to choose Russia as their travel destination. From the experience of other countries, we know that tourists can turn into people accused of various things,” he added, referring to cases where travellers have faced arbitrary charges.
Wroński also underlined that Poland does not engage in sabotage, cyberattacks or other hostile acts against Russia, and recalled that the Kraków consulate was ordered to close after evidence emerged linking Russian intelligence to the arson attack on a major Warsaw shopping centre in 2024.
While the closure mainly affects Russian citizens applying for Polish visas, he noted that Poland’s embassy in Moscow and its consulate in Irkutsk remain open.
