The jets will fly air-policing missions over the alliance’s eastern flank, the command wrote on X, calling the move “another example of allied cooperation and tangible engagement in Central and Eastern Europe’s security.”
A German Air Force spokeswoman told Bild the deployment was “a clear sign of allied solidarity within NATO, serving as a strong deterrent and protecting our shared airspace.”
According to the newspaper, Germany has sent about 150 additional troops to Poland since July 21, including personnel from the “Boelcke” squadron.
News agency dpa said Warsaw requested the deployment, which German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced in January.
The 23rd Tactical Air Base, part of Poland’s 1st Tactical Air Wing, supports military flights in peacetime and oversees Baltic airspace.
