Poland’s new president, Karol Nawrocki, on Thursday signed a draft bill that would exempt parents of two or more children from paying income tax on annual earnings of up to 140,000 zlotys (USD 35,400) per parent, in a move aimed at bolstering family policy.

The proposal, signed in the southeastern town of Kolbuszowa, would apply to parents raising minors, children with disabilities or students up to the age of 25.

“Polish families will always be able to count on their president,” Nawrocki said, calling them the foundation of the nation’s “cultural code” and vowing to push for further tax relief.

The measure forms part of a “Lower and Pro-Family Taxes” package Nawrocki promoted during his election campaign.

The signing came a day after Nawrocki introduced his first legislative initiative — a bill to accelerate work on the planned Central Transport Hub (CPK) airport and high-speed rail network. The president has proposed a 2032 completion deadline and pledged that medium-sized towns will not be excluded from its benefits.

Both initiatives signal Nawrocki’s focus on family support and large-scale infrastructure projects, key planks of his campaign platform.
