"We have signed a letter of intent on cooperation between the Polish and Ukrainian defense industries," Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X.
He said he signed the document with Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels on Wednesday.
Kosiniak-Kamysz described the signing as another step toward strengthening Polish-Ukrainian cooperation and supporting Kyiv in its fight against Russia's ongoing invasion.
"From the very first days of Russia's aggression in Ukraine, we have supported our embattled neighbour," he wrote, adding that "Poland was the first to welcome and provide shelter to Ukrainian citizens" displaced by Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
“We must leverage the potential of our companies to build strong foundations for our security,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said in his post late on Wednesday.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said before the signing that Poland and Ukraine were seeking to bring their defence sectors closer together, and that Warsaw was particularly interested in "drone and counter-drone technologies," while Kyiv was interested in Poland’s capacity to produce heavy equipment for land forces.
Training centre for Ukrainian troops to expand
Kosiniak-Kamysz also announced that a separate agreement was signed in Brussels to expand a Nordic-Baltic training centre for Ukrainian troops at Nowa Dęba-Lipa in southeastern Poland.
He said Poland signed the accord with Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, Norway and Sweden.
“We are carrying out training missions for Ukrainian troops at Nowa Dęba-Lipa, among other sites. Our soldiers, together with Ukrainian instructors, will participate in drone training there,” he wrote.
Earlier this month, Kosiniak-Kamysz said the Norwegian-led centre, known as Camp Jomsborg, can host up to 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers at a time and serves as a show of allied unity and support for Kyiv’s war effort against Russia.
"There is no other army in the world as well trained in drones and counter-drone systems as Ukraine’s," he said at the time.
