His comments on Wednesday followed media reports that the United States has an "internal" security strategy aimed at drawing Poland and several other countries away from the EU.

On Friday, the White House released the official US National Security Strategy, which says Washington should prioritise restoring strategic stability with Russia, encourage Europe to take greater responsibility for its own defence and halt NATO enlargement.

According to the Defense One outlet, an unpublished, internal version of the strategy describes US policy toward the EU in greater detail and suggests focusing on relations with several EU members—including Poland, Austria, Hungary and Italy—with the aim of "drawing them away" from Brussels.

The White House has denied the report.

Asked about the claims, Kosiniak-Kamysz told reporters that Poland "can’t be driven away" from the EU because it is "an integral part" of the bloc. He said Poland "wants change in the EU—less bureaucracy, more security, clearer rules."

'I believe we can count on US support'

Kosiniak-Kamysz also noted that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth "has described Poland as America’s model ally." He said Poland supported the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks, as well as in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"Poland was the first to help, and I believe we can count on US support," he said. “We hope the US will strengthen its military presence in Poland, and there have been no indications to suggest otherwise. The contingent is maintained, and there are plans to increase it, for which I am thankful.”

US strategy on Russia 'will never work'

Kosiniak-Kamysz said the US strategy toward Russia "will disappoint American business circles and some American politicians, because it will never work," calling the approach "not credible."

He said the document appeared to be drafted for domestic audiences and added that Poland "respects the right of the US to shape its policy according to what the voters have decided."

'Transatlantic liner'

He described Poland as a "transatlantic liner" linking Europe and the United States and said Warsaw must help build "the architecture of European security."

The unpublished version of the US strategy also proposes creating a new international cooperation format, known as Core 5 (C5), which would include the United States, China, Russia, India and Japan and address issues such as Middle East security, according to reports.

The EU and its member states would not be included in the C5, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
