Polish ambassador in France charged over alleged fake MBA diploma

Jan R., the Polish ambassador to France, was detained shortly before the Christmas holidays and has been formally charged in connection with the Collegium Humanum case, the National Public Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed.

The diplomat faces a total of four charges, including allegedly giving the university’s rector more than 9,000 złoty (approximately €2,127) in exchange for a falsified postgraduate EMBA diploma.

Prosecutors also accuse Jan R. of using the forged document at a bank while applying for a position on a supervisory board. Following his detention by Poland’s Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) earlier this month, he has been temporarily relieved of his duties at the embassy in France.

Other individuals charged in the case include former right-wing MP Maks K., Paula G., and businessman Paweł P. Maks K. is accused of claiming influence within the education ministry to facilitate the falsification of a psychology degree for Paula G.

She is charged with assisting the Collegium Humanum rector in issuing the fake diploma, while Paweł P. is accused of providing the rector with financial benefits on three occasions in exchange for fictitious EMBA diplomas.

In total, the four suspects face 15 charges. All have been questioned and participated in confrontations with other individuals involved in the investigation. Prosecutors have imposed bail and police supervision, as well as a ban on contacting other participants in the case. If convicted, the suspects could face up to 10 years in prison.
