Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland’s minister-coordinator of the intelligence services, has confirmed that he and Defence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz have received an invitation from President Karol Nawrocki to attend a meeting scheduled for Thursday, 15 January.

Speaking to Polish Radio, Siemoniak said the invitation had also been extended to the heads of Poland’s intelligence and counterintelligence agencies, including the Internal Security Agency (ABW).

The talks are expected to focus on threats facing Poland, as well as on the president’s decision to block officer promotions for personnel of the ABW and the Military Counterintelligence Service.

In late December, Kosiniak-Kamysz and Siemoniak formally requested a meeting with the president to present plans for 2026, covering both record-level defence and security spending and matters subject to classified restrictions.

The meeting comes amid a long-running political standoff between the president - backed by the right-wing populist Law and Justice (PiS) party - and the pro-European Civic Coalition (KO) government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, of which Siemoniak and Kosiniak-Kamysz are key ministers responsible for intelligence, national security and the armed forces.

Siemoniak said he believes there is goodwill on both sides to hold the talks, noting that the Presidential Palace responded quickly to the earlier request to set a date and stressing that, in matters of national security, clarifying any disputed issues is of crucial importance.
