Poland will host a meeting of the heads of parliament from France, Germany, and Poland to mark the 35th anniversary of the Weimar Triangle, Polish Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced Tuesday during a visit to Berlin.
Czarzastys meetings included talks with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, which he described as a very good conversation, full of friendship and reason. He said he had raised the issue of reparations for living victims of World War II during all of his Berlin meetings.

Speaking after meetings with German officials, including Bundestag President Julia Kloeckner and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Czarzasty said he would also travel to Paris soon to coordinate the upcoming event.

“It’s important because these three countries have significant influence on what happens in the European Union,” he told Polish media.

The trilateral gathering is set to include parliamentary leaders from the three nations. Czarzasty said he and Kloeckner also plan to propose parliamentary debates on the relevance of the 1991 Polish-German Treaty on Good Neighborhood and Friendly Cooperation, reflecting on its achievements and discussing future collaboration.

“Poland wasn’t in the EU or NATO when the treaty was signed, so the realities have changed significantly,” he noted, suggesting a joint resolution could emerge from the discussions.

Czarzasty also raised the idea of establishing a Polish-German parliamentary assembly, similar to the Franco-German model. “The proposal was met with understanding,” he said after an initial meeting on the subject.

The Sejm speaker discussed historical memory issues with Kloeckner, including accelerating the construction of a Berlin monument honoring Polish victims of Nazi crimes, which he said could be completed by late 2026 or early 2027.

He also highlighted a Bundestag resolution adopted in December to designate a site for a future Polish-German House in Berlin.

Czarzasty’s meetings included talks with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, which he described as “a very good conversation, full of friendship and reason.” He said he had raised the issue of reparations for living victims of World War II during all of his Berlin meetings.

The speaker also laid a wreath at a temporary monument in Berlin honoring Polish victims of Nazism and German occupation from 1939 to 1945.
