Presidential foreign policy adviser Marcin Przydacz told broadcaster Polsat News that President Karol Nawrocki will ask government representatives at the February 11 National Security Council meeting whether state agencies have investigated Czarzasty's alleged ties to a Russian businesswoman.
“In the media, many disturbing reports suggest that Mr. Czarzasty has ties to a businesswoman, Svetlana Tchesnyh, allegedly connected to decision-making circles in Russia,” Przydacz said.
“What’s most troubling is that Czarzasty refuses to address the topic," he added.
Czarzasty's office released a statement on Tuesday saying that Czarzasty is under constant counterintelligence protection and has the highest-level security clearance.
The statement said "any real threat would have already prompted action from appropriate services," and added that the National Security Council has a consultative role, not an investigative one.
Przydacz questioned “what the Speaker is trying to hide,” noting that as the second-ranking official in the state, Czarzasty has access to sensitive classified information.
“He must explain these Eastern business and social ties to the public,” Przydacz said.
The upcoming National Security Council meeting will also focus on Poland’s potential participation in US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace initiative and a government loan related to the European Union's SAFE defense program, according to presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz.
