A senior Russian official on Wednesday dismissed suggestions by Poland’s prime minister that the Epstein scandal in the United States was linked to Russian intelligence, accusing what he called "leftist elites" of spreading lies.

Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for foreign investment and economic cooperation, made the comments on the X social platform.

He was responding to remarks by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who suggested this week that the late US financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein may have acted as a Russian intelligence asset.

"Desperate, depraved, lying leftist elites panic and try to misdirect," Dmitriev wrote. "The world is tired of your lies and sees through them. Your cabal and fake propaganda machine have been exposed. Endgame for depraved and frequently Satanic liberal elites."

Tusk said on Tuesday that an "increasing number of experts and commentators" believed Epstein’s role as a provider of women to powerful figures may have been a "honey trap" operation run by the Soviet-era KGB, targeting Western—particularly American—elites.

Tusk also announced an investigation into any possible Polish links to the Epstein case.

Dmitriev is currently involved in negotiations with US and Ukrainian officials on efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Last week, the US Department of Justice released about 3 million pages of documents related to Epstein, including correspondence and statements involving prominent figures, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
